Everything you need to know

Along the way

In trail running, you are expected to be as self-sufficient as possible during the run. After approximately 11 km, there is an aid station where you can get water, sports drinks, cola, bananas, muesli bars, chocolate, gummy candies, and dextrose, among other things.

On the longer distances, there is also a second aid station approximately 4 km before the finish.

Bring your own cup!

For all distances, there is a water station approximately 2 km before the finish. Therefore, ensure you have enough to drink along the way. Bringing a water bottle or a hydration pack is recommended.

The course is partly on public roads, where you do not have priority over regular traffic. At some traffic points there will be traffic wardens to guide the runners when crossing. You should ALWAYS follow the directions of the traffic guides.

The route is marked by ribbons, signs, and white arrows (using chalk) on the ground.

Due to the high water levels of the Dinkel, we may have to adjust the route in a few places. If this is the case, you will be informed in detail on the morning of the trail and it will be clearly indicated on the trail where and what the changes are.

The age limit used is 18 years and over.

Dogs are not allowed on the trail. We go over a lot of farmland and private land and dogs are not appreciated. Not even on a leash.

Just before the border crossing, you will receive a small packet of butter and you will have to smuggle this packet 'illegally' past the commies across the border. After the finish, there is an extensive supply post and you will receive a delicious Twentse raisinbread with your smuggled butter.

At various locations along the route, the runners will be supported musically by various musicians.

The three fastest men and women on the 27, 22 and 14 km smuggling trail will be honoured after the number three comes in. The winners will receive a handmade smuggling trophy as a souvenir.
